Reset  Spotlight indexation

Let’s play around  Spotlight (commands need root access)

  • Stop indexation on a specfific volume (ex : /)
mdiutil -i off /
  • Stop indexation on a specific volume (ex : /)
mdiutil -i on /
  • In the case you need to remove old index files
mdiutil -i off /
mdiutil -E /
rm -rf /var/folders/*
mdituil -i on /
  • You can watch up the progress with :
opensnoop -n mdworker
  • Get index informations on a specific volume (ex : /)
mdls /
  • Even on a specific file :
mdls "/Shared Items/MySharepoint/my problematic pdf file.pdf"
